Dating ethically

Dating EthicallyI had a great idea for an article related to dating, but sometimes inspiration comes from an unlikely source.  That happened today, so you will be reading something completely different as a result.

On a date recently, the conversation came up about one party getting hurt in a relationship.  My perception of this person was someone who was not only very sweet, but vulnerable.  I told her that it would I would much rather be the injured individual since I do tend to bounce back rather quickly from such events.  I also feel like crap when I hurt someone since it’s almost always due to unintentional negligence on my part, or a misunderstanding between myself and the aggrieved person.

You’re probably still wondering what inspired this article.  In response to a Facebook posting today regarding recovery from a broken relationship, a woman stated that 3 years after she was betrayed in her marriage, she still cries at least once a day.  It reminded me of the conversation that I referenced earlier in this article.  Let me state emphatically that I never want to cause that kind of heartache to anyone.  Living simply also means living without regret and guilt.

I am trying to simplify my life while engaged in the very complex world of dating.  I’ve learned not to take rejection too seriously, but rather to view it as one less obstacle to finding my perfect match.  Keeping things in perspective, there are also times that I have to tell someone that we’re not right for each other.  If she’s not a pleasant person, informing her of our incompatibility is so easy a caveman can do it.  Other times, it can be a difficult, heart wrenching experience.

My new rule for simplifying dating.  First, cause no harm.

  1. This is the first blog post of yours that I’ve read. It’s well-written and seems to be an honest expression of the man you are. I am now a follower.
